Back in 2023, Coco, one of my regular customers, pointed me to the fantasy shooting events of Maya Lou Events . In a basement (and garden) in the middle of a residential area in Kamp-Lintfort, a team of models, costume curators and photographers is setting up various fantasy sets. If you buy a ticket (whether as a photographer or model), you can shoot in the sets and get to know many like-minded people. Models can also borrow their favourites from the huge pool of costumes and accessories, depending on the ticket category.
Already after the Darkside event, which – as the name suggests – rather illuminated the dark and spooky sides of the fantasy world, Coco and I knew that we also wanted to visit the Enchanted Realms event.
The Sets at the Enchanted Realms
Unlike the Darkside event, this time the sets revolved around fairies, merpeople, pirates and more. In addition to the indoor sets, there were numerous outdoor sets at this event as well as two pool sets with water and fog - a playground for fantasy shoots of all kinds.
Coco and I usually go to the events as a team. We roughly discuss the outfits and sets we definitely want to shoot beforehand. But that doesn't mean that we don't enjoy working with other photographers and models on site.
Indoor vs. outdoor or also: which light?
I prefer to work outdoors and with natural light. That's why the sets from Maya Lou Events are always something special for me. Because here I work a lot indoors and can play with the existing reflector screens and LEDs and move out of my comfort zone.
The attention to detail can be seen in every single set and makes the images extraordinary. Combined with Cocos and my own stash, this time we didn't have enough time to shoot everything we could think of.
